To use a phrase from a popular credit card commercial, North Texas Giving Day for Dallas Christian Women’s Job Corps is simply “PRICELESS!”
DCWJC is located in Far East Dallas and for over 18 years, we have been a beacon of light and hope to meet the needs of women who are one step out of crisis. We define crisis as women who are exiting incarceration, residing in transitional housing for drug addiction, recently widowed, and/or in need of enhanced skills to re-enter the job market.
As a ministry with a very small operating budget, we are so blessed to say that North Texas Giving Day has allowed us to raise over 10% of our annual budget in just one day for the last 3 years!
The funds raised on this incredible day support the women who attend our 8-week Job and Life Skills Program. The primary objectives of the Job and Life Skills Program are to assist women to become self-sufficient and independent through teaching “hard” skills (computer training, resume preparation, money management/budgeting, interview skills, etc.), and “soft” skills (Bible study, healthy relationships/boundaries, character development, health and nutrition, parenting skills, time management, etc.). In conjunction with the help and support of a mentor, our services help women holistically move forward toward self-sufficiency. The program ends with a graduation ceremony where each woman gives a speech to celebrate what she has accomplished during the 8 week class.
Being a part of North Texas Giving Day has not only given Dallas Christian Women’s Job Corps funds need, but also has given us exposure to new donors who have supported the work of helping women in need. We remain grateful to Communities Foundation of Texas for organizing this important day for our community!
