Hope Rising – Putting the FUN in Fundraising

The Cast of the 2014 The Vagina Monologues, benefiting The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center

Hope Rising is thrilled to participate in North Texas Giving Day 2016.  Our organization’s primary focus is to monetarily support victims of sexual assault and domestic violence thru creative fundraising.  That’s a very fancy way of saying we create artistic projects to raise money for organizations such as The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center, Hope’s Door Domestic Violence Shelter, Ashleigh’s Patience Project, and Stronger Than Espresso (just to name a few).  Hope Rising has produced Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, Nora & Delia Ephron’s Love Loss and What I Wore, as well as a handful of other productions.  We have done flash mobs, sold beer, played dodge ball, participated in city parades and built a giant microphone.  Crazy, fun and professional projects that have risen close to $40,000 for organizations in our short three years of existence.

While those organizations receive federal funding (often times cut every year) and grants, the money we give them are discretionary funds.  This means that while grants are for a designated purpose, a salary, rent, education or awareness programs, decided by the government or the organization distributing the grant,  the money we give them can go to whatever they need at the time.  For example, The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center shares a “care bag” to each victim they counsel.  After a victim of rape has endured the forensic process of submitting to a rape kit, The Turning Point provides them with sweat pants, t-shirts, toothbrushes, etc.  (You can only imagine how comforting those items must be to the victims.) If they are short on anything in that bag they can use the funds we give them to make that purchase, something a grant or federal funding might not deem important.

Hope Rising gives 100% of our projects’ proceeds to the designated beneficiary for the project.  100%!  For North Texas Giving Day 2016 we are looking to raise funds to purchase our own sound system, eliminating the need to rent or borrow a system for our productions, allowing us to give even more discretionary funds to the beneficiary.  Also allowing us to raise more awareness, with our flash mobs and vigils.  Help us “Drop The Mic” and raise awareness.  1 in 5 women and 1 in 9 men will experience violence in their lifetimes and they deserve to be heard!!!
